Men’s Tennis Competes at Invitational in Winter Park, Fla.

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Men’s Tennis) – The Florida Tech Panthers competed in the C.L.
Varner Memorial Inviational in Winter ParkFla. The tennis tournament was played at three different locations in Winter Park, Fla.: theBert Martin
Tennis Complex, the Tiedtke Tennis Courts and the Azalea Lane Tennis Courts.

Florida Tech picked up some wins throughout the tournament. Freshman D.J. Pate went on a roll Saturday. He beat de Montefort of
Florida Southern, 6-1, 6-3. Then he beat Dovila of Florida Gulf Coast University 2-6, 6-3 (7). He couldn’t get past Thesleff
of Florida Southern for the overall winner of the Men’s Singles – Back Draw – Flight A. Pate lost the match 6-0, 6-4.

Freshman James McLane beat Frankie Moulton of Palm Beach Atlantic, 7-5, 6-4 in the first round of the Men’s Singles – Main Draw – Flight B. In the
second round he succumbed to Pablo Seijo of RollinsCollege, 6-4, 6-3.

Sophomore Jon Hanna beat Eruin Garibovic of
FloridaGulfCoastUniversity, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round of the Men’s Singles –
Main Draw – Flight A. However, he did lose in the second round to Adrian Tan of RollinsCollege, 6-3, 7-6
(3).

In other singles action, freshman Alandre Melton lost to Steve Benning of Florida Gulf
Coast University, 6-1, 6-0. Junior Brett Addison lost to Frank Acierno also of
FloridaGulfCoastUniversity, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Drew Hollis also fell in the
first round in the Men’s Singles – Main Draw – Flight B as did Melton and Addison. He lost to Danny Colon of
Central Florida, 6-2, 6-1.

In the Men’s Singles – Back Draw – Flight A Melton lost to Hackenbruch, 6-0, 6-2. Addison lost to
Colombo, 6-1, 6-1. Hollis also lost to Ely of Rollins College in the first round, 6-1, 6-2.

In the Men’s Singles – Main Draw – Flight A, freshman Yan Carlo Rodriguez lost to Bobby Deye of
FloridaState, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Joel Zahlan lost to Michael O’Shea of
FloridaState, 6-2, 6-1. In the same draw, Pate lost to Jonathan Gomez of
RollinsCollege, 4-6, 6-1 (6).

In doubles action, the team could not pull out a win. Rodriguez and McLane teamed up in a loss to Carvalho and Seijo of Rollins, 8-5. Hanna and
Pate couldn’t beat Muller and Garibovic of Florida Gulf Coast University, 8-4. Zahlan and Addison teamed up to face De Montfort and Duyungan of Florida
Southern. They lost 8-4. Hollis and Melton teamed up in the final doubles match for Florida Tech. They faced Tan and Rockwood of Rollins College and lost
8-4.

Men’s A singles, Women’s A singles and Women’s B singles were not completed due to rain.

to Lakeland, Fla. for the ITA Regional tournament on Thursday.
