MIT Graduate Joins Florida Tech Faculty

– Florida Tech welcomes Daniel Kirk, Ph.D., Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), 2002, to its faculty this fall as an assistant professor in the
Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. As a member of the department, Kirk will teach three classes this fall.

Kirk spent a year as a Post-Doctoral Scholar in the Gas Turbine Laboratory at MIT from 2002-2003. He also is a former employee of NASA. At the NASA Langley
Research Center in Hampton, Va., Kirk worked in the Vehicle Dynamics Branch, the Hypersonic Air-Breathing Propulsion Branch, and the Structural Dynamics
Branch.

Kirk is currently researching the development of a transient shock tunnel facility for high speed, compressible flow and the measurement of aerodynamic
forces on MAGLEV launch vehicle configurations.
