Meet Brendan: Applied Behavior Analysis and Organizational Behavior Management, M.S.

I’m Brendan. Let’s be friends.

But first, please promise that you’ll never ask me what the weather looks like outside. That is a silly question. I’m a Canadian living in Florida pursuing my master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis and Organizational Behavior Management. My answer will always be the same:

“There are palm trees outside; it’s hot.”

That’s logic.

Why bother looking out the window in the first place? Just throw on a t-shirt and let’s get moving. Florida’s weather patterns should have no influence over your personal attire. Look at me: I wear the same thing year round.

August? Shorts and a t-shirt.
January? Shorts and a t-shirt.
4:00 a.m.? Shorts and a t-shirt.
Category 5 hurricane? Duh, shorts and a t-shirt.
A hot date? Unless she wants me to sweat all evening, you guessed it: shorts and a t-shirt.

The belabored point I’m making here is simply that Florida is hot. Bloody hot. And after living here for a year I still haven’t acclimated to the scorching heat.

But, thankfully, it was easy to acclimate to the students and faculty of Florida Tech. They’re good people. I mean, I can strike up a conversation about this terrible summer heat with nearly anyone I meet – that is, after they’ve had a good-natured chuckle at my Canuck accent. But you know what? That’s ok. This place still feels like home.
