Net Neutrality Focus of Free Florida Tech Lecture Oct. 27

Faculty Members Tilley, Yuran Headline Evans Library Event       

MELBOURNE, FLA. — The Internet has become a huge part of the way we live, work, learn and play.  Search engines, social media, video streaming and online commerce are all part of our lives now.

As this digital presence grows in our lives, so, too, does the need to understand factors that may influence that presence. Among the leading ones is network, or net, neutrality. Net neutrality, according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, is “the idea that Internet service providers should treat all data that travels over their networks fairly, without improper discrimination in favor of particular apps, sites or services.”

From 6:30-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, in the lobby of Evans Library on the campus of Florida Institute of Technology, two faculty members will tackle this complex and important issue. Scott Tilley is professor of engineering systems and an Association for Computing Machinery distinguished lecturer, and Dzmitry Yuran is assistant professor in the School of Arts and Communications whose research interests include mass media and media freedom.

The free presentation, open to the public, is part of the Library After Hours series. Refreshments will be served.
