The (Un)Official Florida Tech Student To-Do List
Here are some suggestions that a Florida Tech student should consider putting on a to-do list. As you go through your college career, you will add things to your schedule that become part of your daily routine and lifestyle.
Join a student organization.
When you arrive to Florida Tech, you are going to be introduced to a world of opportunity. There are many student organizations for any major, personality and interests. Some Florida Tech student organizations include Greek Life, Falcon Flight Team, Baseball Club, Campus Activities Board, Caribbean Student Association and more!
Experience the magic at all Disney Parks.
Walt Disney World is only about an hour drive away from campus. Now that I am in my fourth year at Florida Tech, I am proud to say that I have managed to enjoy at least one day at each Disney Park in Orlando. The parks include Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. All of these parks make for a great day to be a kid and escape the stress and hard work of college.
Put your toes in the sand at least once a week.
With the beach being less than 10 minutes away, try to make it to the beach once a week. It is a great place to come up with research paper topics, read textbooks, have fun or simply relax. There is also great food, shopping and hangout spots to explore.
Purchase a Universal Studios Season Pass.
Universal Studios is one of my favorite Theme parks that I have been to. If you are a roller coaster fanatic like I am, you need to get a season pass for Universal Studios. With only being an hour away, you and your friends can take day trips to enjoy rides like Transformers, Harry Potter, Spiderman, the Hulk and so much more! You can also enjoy additional concerts and promotional events that Universal has throughout the year.
Visit Kennedy Space Center.
No matter if you’re an aerospace engineering major, aviation major or marine biology major, Kennedy Space Center is an awesome place to enjoy your day! Check out simulation rides, museum displays, talk with a veteran astronaut and watch an IMAX theatre presentation on the International Space Station. You might just even get to see a launch if you’re lucky enough … or just check their website to see when the next launch is!
Plan a weekend trip with friends!
Florida Tech is located in a perfect location to make weekend trips with your friends. Sometimes it is necessary to plan an escape from all of the studying and homework to refresh the brain. Within only two hours from Melbourne are Daytona Beach, West Palm Beach and Tampa Bay. If you want to go a little further, take a trip to Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville or the Keys. Each city is filled with tons of nightlife, attractions and beaches to relax on! My personal favorite so far was a weekend Bahamas cruise with about 40 of my friends!
Attend Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway.
What can be better than a weekend full of race cars, friends, music and sunshine? Each year, my friends and I have made a trip to watch and be a part of Rolex 24, a 24-hour race. It is full of excitement and energy that you won’t forget. If this isn’t enough for you, then the Daytona 500 is always an option too!
Call at least one person from home every day.
Whether it’s your mother, grandfather or best friend from high school, make sure you keep in touch with those who mean the most to you. Stay updated with what is going on at home and keep all those at home updated with what is going on in your busy college life.
