Oh, Clap Your Hands! An Evening of Choral Masterworks Comes to Florida Tech March 15

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Florida Institute of Technology Concert Choir joins the acclaimed Butler University Chorale, from Indianapolis, Ind., in Oh, Clap Your Hands! An Evening of Choral Masterworks. The choirs will harmonize on Thursday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Gleason Performing Arts Center, on campus. Admission is free.

The Butler University Chorale, the premier choral ensemble at the Butler University School of Music, is directed by Eric Stark, who is also artistic director of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir. The chorale will visit Melbourne on one of its mini-tours, bringing about 60 of its 80 member voice chorus to Florida Tech.

Selections for the Chorale Spring Tour 2012 to Florida will include a wide variety of repertoire, including works by Eric Whitacre, Ralph Vaughn Williams, Paul Hindemith, John Rutter and Randall Thompson. In addition the chorale will perform a selection of spirituals and works from the popular idiom, including works by Indiana native Cole Porter. A special concert treat will be selections by members of the premier Butler men’s a cappella group, Out of the Dawg House, now in its seventh year.

The Florida Tech Concert Choir will join the Butler Chorale in singing “O God My Rock”, by Abby Betinis. The Concert Choir is under the direction of Eliza Healy Dopira and flourishing in its fourth year as part of the Florida Tech Music Department. In addition to this collaboration, the Concert Choir will hold a free showcase concert on April 13, at 7pm in Gleason Center for Performing Arts.
