Panthers Baseball Lose to Pirates in Extra Innings

SAVANNAH, Ga. (baseball) – A 10th inning one out seeing eyed single by Armstrong Atlantic drove in the winning run as No. 28-ranked Armstrong Atlantic
fended off the Panthers, 8-7, on Sunday afternoon at Pirate Field.

The game looked like anything but an extra inning affair as Armstrong Atlantic jumped out to a 7-0 lead going into the top of the eighth inning. With two
outs, the Panthers awakened to rally back and tie the game at 7. Starting the rally was Tech’s Sam Palace (Clarkston, Mich.) who singled to right field and
then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brandon Veronee (Chester, Va.) walked to put runners on the corners and then Mike Messana (Pinehurst, N.C.) walked
to load the bases. Stepping to the plate was Eric Trillas (Hialeah, Fla.) who knocked in two runs off a doubled to right field. After two more walks, Nick
Brennan (Detroit, Mich.) singled to left to drive in another run. Brenan Twomey (Boca Raton, Fla.) followed up with another single driving in two more
runs. The last two run would be unearned as Brennan and Twomey crossed the plate off a throwing error by the Pirates shortstop. The Panthers eight inning
saw 7 runs, 4 hits, and 1 error leaving 2 left on base.

The Pirates had a chance to win it in the bottom of the ninth, but Florida Tech reliever Jody Danca (Naples, Fla.) got out of a two-on, one-out jam by
finishing off the next two Pirate batters, sending the game to extra innings.

The ninth and tenth innings for the Panthers ended with zeros as the Pirates were able to score the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning off a
single up the middle driving in the Pirates runner that was on second base. Danca (0-1) took the loss, giving up two hits and one run in 1 1/3 innings
pitched.

The Panthers were led Brennan who had three hits and three stolen bases. Trillas and Twomey added two hits apiece for the Panthers.

The Panthers on the weekend went 2-2 with both wins coming against Wingate University; game one won 5-3 and the second game won 24-7. Tech now move to 4-2
on the season and will next be in action for their first home game against Barry University on Tuesday, February 13th in a non-conference game with the
first pitch being thrown around 2pm.
