Florida Tech to Host Flying Association Conference

– Florida Tech will host the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) Region IX Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference (SAFECON) Nov. 13-15.
Ground events will be held at the university’s School of Aeronautics ; flight events will take place at FIT Aviation at Melbourne International Airport.

The university’s Falcons flight team will face other Florida and Southeastern teams from Auburn University, Jacksonville University, Embry Riddle
Aeronautical University and Miami-Dade Community College.

Flight events include power-off and short-field landings on Nov. 14, navigation and an accuracy message drop event on Nov. 15. Ground competitions include
aircraft recognition, aircraft pre-flight inspection, ground trainer and computer accuracy.

Dr. Robert Schuster, associate professor, Florida Tech School of Aeronautics, is coordinating the event.

The NIFA is composed of 80 colleges and universities in 11 regions across the United States . The organization was formed to develop and advance aviation
education, promote aviation safety, and foster communications and cooperation among aviation students, educators, educational institutions and the aviation
industry.
