Outstanding Junior and Senior Named at Florida Tech

– At Florida Tech’s annual Honors Convocation, Fernando Garcia Bermudez, of Buenos Aires, Argentina, was named Outstanding Junior. Michelle Prell, a 2000
graduate of Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg, Fla., was named Outstanding Senior.

Bermudez is also a Florida Tech Presidential Scholar, was named Outstanding Sophomore last year and is first in his class of 48 aerospace engineering
majors. A research assistant in Dr. Hector Gutierrez’ maglev (magnetic levitation) research laboratory, Bermudez is helping to develop a future generation
of space launch vehicles. He plans to attend Caltech for a master’s or doctoral degree following graduation.

Prell, a psychology major, was named Outstanding Junior last year. She is president of Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology, scholarship chair
of Phi Theta Kappa, has been president of the Undergraduate Psychology Student Association at Florida Tech and is on the National Dean’s List. Prell also
is a professional dancer and personal trainer.

The Outstanding Junior and Senior award winners are chosen by a faculty committee from among the Outstanding Junior and Senior awardees within each
academic area.
