Owning a Successful Business Requires Much More Than Knowledge of Your Own Industry

Many of us find out the hard way that owning a business takes much more time and effort than we ever thought possible. Part of the reason for this is that – regardless of how great you are at delivering the product or service you specialize in – there are likely things you never realized you’d have to know. From human resource rules to mandatory tax filings and workplace safety – it takes a fair amount of time to deal with these sometimes unexpected items, but knowing them from the beginning and incorporating them into your day-to-day business dealings will make your life much easier in the long run.

One of the goals of the Women’s Business Center is to provide valuable resources to both current and prospective business owners – to help them gain the tools they need to run a successful business. This week, Sherry Acanfora-Ruohomaki, owner of Melbourne-based K9 Kampus and a WBC IGNITE Program Mentor, gives us her thoughts on some of the lessons she’s learned and provides advice on where to gain your own knowledge on business formation and growth issues.
