Panther Men Overtake Tampa 4-3 in First Conference Win of the Season

TAMPA, Fla. (men’s soccer)- Panther continue on their winning streak defeating Sunshine State Conference foe the University of Tampa Spartans 4-3 in the
night time showdown at the Pepin Stadium. Forward Ross Allen (Castel, Guernsey, U.K.) notched his second hat-trick of his freshman campaign. This
three-goal feat was also the third hat-trick of the year after not having accomplished one since 1997.

Tampa opened up scoring in the ninth minute of play when Clevon George struck first off a pass from 45 yards from teammate Tim Walsh. Two minutes later
Allen knotted the score 1-to-1 off a throw in by sophomore defender Matt Cermak (Melbourne, Fla.).

Both teams headed into the half with the score tied. Again, Allen took control for the crimson and gray strikers dribbling past Tampa’s defenders to score
the advantage goal unassisted. Four minutes later, the Spartans’ Ricardo Cardosa answered back taking advantage of a shot deflection to find the back of
the net for the ninth time this year. The score would once again knot up at 2-to-2 with twenty-five minutes left on the game clock.

Allen would again grab the advantage, with his third goal and eleventh on the season. Allen scored off a ripped shot outside the 18 yard mark after taking
on back row defender 1-v-1 with 84:27 on the clock. Tech did not recover in enough time, allowing Tampa to again tie the game seventeen seconds later when
Cardosa sliced another goal off another deflection by Tech’s keeper Cory Collins (Melbourne, Fla.).

The game winner came a minute later when Panthers’ sophomore midfielder Edward Oyarce (Miami, Fla.) netted the game winner off a cross from Allen. Oyarce,
Tech’s second leading scorer behind Allen, grabbed his fifth goal on the season. Both Oyarce and Allen have combined to score all ten of the Panthers’
goals in their past three victories.

Collins is now 3-3-1 on the season allowed three goals while tallying six saves for the win.
