Panther Softball Claw #14 Florida Southern Mocs 2-0

LAKELAND, Fla. (softball) — Junior pitcher Amber West, after being named this week’s Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week, proved worthiness of the
honor today by leading Florida Tech (37-21, 13-6) to a 2-to-0 victory. West shut down the #14 ranked Florida Southern Moccasins (36-11, 9-4) in SSC action
allowing only three hits tonight at the Barnett Field.

West who is now 15-9 on the season fanned five while only giving up one free trip to first for her seven innings of scoreless hurling.

Five Panthers managed to hit off of Southern’s All American pitcher Megan Brown (Carrollton, Ga.), now 22-6 after the loss, including two unearned runs to
win the game. Junior Danielle Stanley (Grayson, Ga.), senior Laura Chisena (Ocoee, Fla.), Ashley Lugo (Cape Coral, Fla.), junior Ali Wiegand (Tallahassee,
Fla.) and freshman Sarah Oram (Indian Harbor, Fla.) each managed to hit safely in the big win for Tech.

Both Lugo and Wiegand stepped up big in the sixth inning to plate the scoring run as well as an insurance run for the Panthers. Both senior Katie Naumoff
(Poland, Ohio) and Chisena each reached on errors and proceeded to score in a two out rally by Tech. Lugo brought home Chisena in a single up the middle in
a single shot to right center. Wiegand then proceeded to plate Naumoff with the only multiple base hit of the game for an RBI double to left center.

Florida Tech will face Florida Southern tomorrow night beginning at 5:00 p.m. in games two and three of another SSC doubleheader.
