Panthers Baseball Falls Short to #7 Florida Southern

MELBOURNE, Fla. – In their tenth Sunshine State Conference game of the year, the Panthers battled against the #7 ranked Moccasins from Florida Southern to
a 6-2 loss playing through a slight rain throughout the afternoon.

Through the first three innings, the two teams managed to get base runners on but couldn’t manage to drive in a run. The Mocs managed to get four base
runners on off of two hits and drew a walk through the first three innings but their lone scoring threat came in the first inning as the Mocs left the
bases loaded.

The Panthers Brendan Twomey (Boca Raton, Fla.) got Tech’s first base hit of the game driving the ball back up the middle but was left stranded on first. In
the second, Kevin Villa (Miami, Fla.) knocked a double to the center field wall but would be tagged out at home as trying to score after a wild pitch. In
the third, the Panthers Nick Brennan (Detroit, Mich.) reached second after Twomey was hit by a pitch but again Brennan and Twomey were left stranded on the
bases.

The Mocs in the fourth broke tie as they were able to load the bases as the first three batters of the inning reached base on two base hits and a batter
being hit by a pitch. With the bases juiced, the Mocs Arden McWilliams hit his second homerun of the year with a grand slam to left field to take a 4-0
lead. The Mocs in the fifth would score another run as their seventh base hit of the game was hit back up the middle taking a 5-0 lead.

For the Panthers, Tech would get Eamonn Powers (Staten Island, NY) in scoring position in the fourth as Powers hit his lone hit of the game through the
right side of the infield and then be bumped over with a sacrifice bunt by Villa but Tech would strand their fourth runner on base. In the fifth, the
Panthers had their best opportunity to cut into the Mocs lead but would leave the bases loaded ending any potential rally.

Tech would go ahead and score their first run of the game in the sixth inning as Villa would come around after being walked from Trevor Hearl (Cape Coral,
Fla.) who hit into a double play but drove in Tech’s first run. In the seventh, the Panthers would catch a break after Twomey led the inning off with his
second base hit of the game and Steve Condotta (Mississauga, Ontario) reached first and would get all the way to third on one of the Mocs five errors of
the game scoring Twomey from first. Just as Tech was catching a break, the door closed on any further damage. After seven innings, the Panthers trailed by
three; 5-2.

The Panthers had two more chances at the Mocs but in the eighth, Will Lanier (Jacksonville, Fla.) only reached first on a walk and in the ninth Twomey and
Villa were put on with walks but a double play ground out ended the game and the Panthers opportunity of a comeback. Florida Southern scored their final
run in the ninth on three hits and two walks as the final score of the game ended 6-2 in favor of the Moccasins.

Tech still has two more chances at Florida Southern as they face the Mocs in a double header on Saturday, March 31st with a start time of 12pm on the Andy
Seminick-Les Hall Field. The Panthers overall move to 22-11 and 6-4 in the SSC after game one of the three game series
