Panthers Baseball Victorious in Home Opener

MELBOURNE, Fla. (baseball) – The Florida Tech Baseball team finally got on their home diamond taking on the Barry Buccaneers ending in a 10-5 victory over
Barry.

The Panthers and Bucs both scored runs in the first inning but the Panthers grabbed the lead scoring two more runs in the second taking a 3-1 lead. Barry
answered back scoring three runs off a three run homerun hit over the leftfield fence by Orestas Gonzales tying the game at 4. Tech would go on to score
two more runs in the bottom of the third to retake the lead 5-4 of a sacrifice fly by Will Lanier (Jacksonville, Fla.) and a base hit by Nick Brennan
(Detroit, Mich.).

Taking the lead through the seventh inning, the Panthers would score one run after Eric Trillas (Hialeah, Fla.) was hit by a pitch scoring a run then score
three more off a bases clearing triple by Michael Messana (Pinehurst, N.C.) to take a 9-4 lead. Barry would score their last run in the eight for their
fifth run of the game and the Panthers would score their ninth run from a base hit from Michal Demma (Coral Springs, Fla.) scoring Trevor Hearl (Cape
Coral, Fla.).

Brennan, Brendan Twomey (Boca Raton, Fla.), Hearl, Steve Condotta (MIssissauga, Ontario), Eammon Powers (Staten Island, N.Y.), Demma, and Messana all had a
hit apiece in the game. Seven Panther players drove in runs while Messana drove in three runs on the afternoon. Tech hit well in the five innings they
scored runs with eight of the ten runs coming with two outs on the board. The Panthers now have scored ten or more runs in four of their six games thus far
in the season.

Tech’s Brett Backman (Ontario, Canada) and Jake Koch (Orlando, Fla.) coming out of the bullpen struck out 11 Buccaneer batters in 5 1/3 innings pitched
between the two allowing one run. Backman received his first win as Koch earned his first save on the season.

Tech now 4-2 is back in action facing Merrimack College in a three game series starting on Saturday, February 17th in a double header starting at 12 pm
then Sunday the 18th in a single game starting again at 12 pm.
