Panthers Cant Take Battle of Big Cats

SAINT LEO, Fla. (Women’s Soccer) – The Panthers couldn’t defeat the Saint Leo Lions Saturday. Their
record drops to 5-4-1 and 0-3-1 in the Sunshine State Conference after the 2-0 loss.   Florida Tech threatened early in the match with two shots from
freshman midfielder Matilda
Östergaard
. The Panthers also scored a goal from far outside the box that was erased by an offsides call. They had opportunities to show off
their defense as well. Florida Tech cleared three corner kicks in the first 12 minutes.   Early in the 26th minute the Lions scored the first goal of
the match. Saint Leo crossed the ball in front of sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Pyles and a Lions player came
in from the right to finish the play.   The Panthers were able to register five shots on goal in the first half. They continuously applied pressure to
Saint Leo and the Lions’ goalkeeper, but they couldn’t convert any of their opportunities.   Both teams came out fairly even after the break, but
Saint Leo added another goal in the 50th minute. The Saint Leo Lion kicked a well-placed shot to push the score to 2-0.   Despite a lead in shots and
shots on goal, the Panthers could not apply any more pressure for the rest of the match.   The Panthers will see their next action against Eckerd at 4
p.m. in Melbourne, Fla. on Tuesday.   BOX
