Panthers Down Flagler in Five Game Thriller

MELBOURNE, Fla. – (Volleyball) – In an intense, hard-hitting match with the Flagler Saints, Florida Tech came out on top winning three games to two and
improving their record to 16-8.

Standouts for the Panthers included Marcela Vasconcelos with 65 assists, seven aces and 28 digs and Sacha Gumbs with 26
kills and four blocks. Whitney Roberts went four-for-seven clipping a .571 attack percentage.

Leading the way for Flagler was Justine Burkhardt with 25 kills, Rebecca Royal with 25 assists and Katie Beale with 18 digs.

Both games one and two went very smoothly for Tech. The Panthers maintained control in game one holding the Saint offense to a .034 hitting percentage and
winning the game 30-22. Game two was similar finding Tech with an early five point lead and hitting .225 to Flagler’s .000. Game three was a surprising
turn around as Tech fell behind at nine and struggled to regain the lead throughout the teens. The Saints took the lead back at 27 and held on to win
30-28. Game four found the Panthers in a nine-point hole desperately trying to get their momentum back. Tech was out-hit by the Saints .352 to .214 as they
fell 22-30.

Game five was a nail-biter as Tech was down by three at the switch and didn’t gain the lead until 13. It was better late than never as the Panthers held on
through Saint attack errors to take the game and the match 15-12.

The Panthers will be on the road this weekend taking on Saint Leo Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. before participating in the Saint Leo tournament facing
Henderson and Northwood on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
