Clark Endowed Scholarship Recipient Named at Florida Tech

– At Florida Tech’s annual Honors Convocation marine biology major, Jacquelyn K. Lorne, was named recipient of the 2003-2004 Dr. Kerry Bruce Clark Endowed
Scholarship. Lorne, who will be a senior in fall 2003, will receive an estimated award of $3,500. She is a resident of Boynton Beach, Fla. and graduated
from Pope John Paul II High School in Boca Raton, Florida in May 2000.

Lorne was selected for her admirable academic record, excellent research skills, her works on behalf of students and the university, and her career
aspirations in teaching and research. She served as a sea turtle researcher intern at the Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Fla. during Summer 2002 and
has monitored sea turtle nests in her hometown for the past three summers.

As a volunteer working with sea turtles, 1995-2000, at the Marinelife Center in Juno Beach, Fla., Lorne logged 1,000 hours. For this work, she was awarded
the Unsung Hero L.I.F.E. Scholarship (Leaders In Furthering Education), earning $10,000 toward college tuition.

As an undergraduate researcher at Florida Tech, she has focused on “Effects of sudden and dramatic changes in salinity on the physiology, survival and
behavior of postlarval and juvenile blue crabs.” Lorne recently was awarded a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates Fellowship
for summer 2003. The award includes a $3,600 stipend.

Dr. Kerry Bruce Clark was a member of the biological sciences faculty from 1971 until his death in 1998. A full professor, he was named a 1996 Fellow by
the American Association for the Advancement of Science in honor of his work documenting rare species of sea slugs. His research on mollusks, marine
ecology populations, physiological ecology and biodiversity was widely published in scientific journals.
