Panthers Downed by Nova Southeastern 15-10 in SSC Action
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Tech combines for eleven hits scoring ten runs but fall short against the Sharks of Nova Southeastern University 15-10 in a high
scoring Sunshine State Conference outing.
Nova jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after a two run three hit first inning but the Panthers answered back scoring four runs in the second inning. Brendan
Twomey (Boca Raton, Fla.) drove in three of the four runs with a double to center field; Tech’s other run was scored after a bases loaded walk. The Sharks
would get within one run off a solo homerun by Rhys Roberts to left field but would still trail 4-3 after only two innings.
The Sharks would continue to rally going into the third scoring three more runs as Nova’s Rhys Roberts hit his second homerun of the game at his second
plate appearance. The Panthers would strike back getting within one 6-5 as Steve Condotta (Mississauga, Ontario) drove in Will Lanier (Jacksonville, Fla.)
who reached on a base hit through the left side in the fourth.
Just as the Panthers clawed back early in the game, the Sharks swam away at their turn in the fourth scoring seven runs on five hits. Eric Trillas
(Hialeah, Fla.) drove in Tech’s lone run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to right field scoring JD Davidson (Naples, Fla.) who hit a gaper to left
center for his lone hit of the game. Again in the sixth, Tech would score one more run as Twomey would be driven in by Sam Palace (Clarkston, Mich.) who
hit a single to left field; Twomey reached base with his second double of the game down the right field line.
Nova who combined to gather 17 hits scoring 15 runs would score their final two runs in the sixth as the Sharks smacked two doubles in the inning. Still
fighting in their last at bat in the ninth, the Panthers BJ Veronee (Chester, Va.) would knock in two runs with his second homerun of the year sending the
ball over the left field fence. The Crimson’s first run of the inning would be knocked in as Trevor Hearl (Cape Coral, Fla.) led the inning off with a walk
with Twomey driving in his second RBI of the game. Dane Maglich (Sarasota, Fla.) would score off Veronee’s homerun as he smacked a double to left center.
Three Panther players had multi hit games while five other Tech players had a hit in the game. Nick Brennan (Detroit, Mich.), Twomey, and Lanier each had a
multi hit game while Maglich, Condotta, Veronee, Palace, and Davidson each had a hit apiece. Twomey and Veronee were the two Panther players who drove two
RBI apiece.
