Panthers Edge Out Moccasins 1-0 in Womens Soccer

MELBOURNE, Fla. (women’s soccer) – Florida Tech’s women’s soccer team edged out Florida Southern this afternoon 1-0 earning their second win in the
Sunshine State Conference.

Scoring opportunities weren’t a problem for both teams as they recorded 26 total shots in the game; the problem was finding the back of the net.

Early opportunities were missed by Florida Southern and by Florida Tech throughout the first half as both teams tallied six shots apiece. Tech’s strikers,
Erica Hildreth (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) and Teresa Brantley (Satellite Beach, Fla.) had early opportunities but couldn’t finish. The game was notched 0-0 going
into the half.

Tech tallied the loan goal of the game and the essential game winner off the foot of Brantley early in the second half around the 51st minute. The goal was
set up off a counter attack by the Panthers with Jennifer Dunn (Vero Beach, Fla.) leading the way finding Hildreth who passed it to Brantley who marked her
ninth goal of the season. Dunn and Hildreth were credited for the assists on the play. The assists marked Jen’s second and Erica’s fifth on the year.

Freshman goalie Melissa Pyles (Port Orange, Fla.) recorded the shutout for the Panthers. Pyles saw a total of 11 shots with two shots on goal saving them
both. The win marks her sixth on the season with all of them being shutouts.

The win marks the Panthers seventh on the season moving them to a 7-3-3 overall record and a 2-1-2 conference record.

The Panthers next meet the Tars of Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida for a SSC night game on Saturday, October 14th at 7 pm.
