Panthers Fall 49-45 to the Lady Blazers in NCAA II Regional Basketball Action

Ft. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (women’s basketball) — Florida Tech (1-1) unable to pull it together in the final minutes of play fell 49-45 against the Valdosta State
University Lady Blazers (2-0) at the NSU/Marriott Tip Off Classic hosted by Nova Southeastern. Senior guard Danielle Vaughn (Tallahassee, Fla.) led all
scorers for the evening with 13 points. Vaughn, coming off the bench, went 7-for-9 from the charity stripe and 3-for-7 from the field.

Turnovers were a major part of tonight’s game with both team making a total of 54 for the contest with 28 coming from Florida Tech. The Panthers took
advantage of the Blazers turnovers scoring off of 25 of the 26 that came from the red and white opponents. Valdosta only managed to score off of 17 of
Tech’s turnovers.

The score flip-flopped nine times through-out the contest and both teams took full advantage of their bench each scoring 26 of their points from their
second string performers.

Junior three-guard Kristin Heminger (Merritt Island, Fla.) showed off another solid performance for the crimson and gray hoopsters scoring in the double
figures again at 11 points. Heminger led the Panthers under the board with four rebounds. Senior center Danise Fequiere (Miami, Fla.) chipped in eight
points for the night.

Valdosta State only had one player score in the double figures with junior guard Janelle Collazo (Orlando, Fla.) topping her team at 12 points for the
night. Collazo went 3-for-4 from behind the three point line.

The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow facing host Nova Southeastern in a non-conference match-up with the tip-off set for 3:00 p.m. in the new
University Center Arena.
