Panthers Fall to #25 Bucs in SSC Softball Doubleheader Action
MELBOURNE, Fla. (softball) — Florida Tech (34-20, 10-5) fell 1-0 and 3-2 in the final two games of the Sunshine State Conference series to #25 ranked Barry
Buccaneers (32-10, 6-3) today at the Nancy Bottge Field. For the meetings this season the Bucs have managed to take all four games against Tech including
an early non-conference game.
For the day, senior catcher Kristen Fettes (Deltona, Fla.) was the only Panther to hit safely batting .400 including two hits and a single shot that would
put her in scoring position in the nightcap after a misjudgment of a hard shot to left field.
For the three game series, Fettes again was the only Tech slugger to safely hit against Barry; she is currently leading the team in batting with a season.
397. She has amassed 39 runs on 69 hits with 43 ribbies also including 11 doubles, five triples and one homer with a team high slugging percentage at .534
and a .419 on base percentage.
In game one, senior hurler Judith Husband (Wewahitchka, Fla.) suffered the 1-0 loss she now has a 15-6 overall season record and a 1.04 ERA. She went the
distance of 7.0 innings allowing five hits on one earned run early in the first inning. She fanned three for the day. The Bucs’ Liz Bennett improved to
12-2 on the year allowing only four hits.
Shyla Rider would score the lone run as the lead off batter in the top of the first. She went 1-for-3 with one run after being brought home by teammate
Amanda Goelz.
Tech’s Danielle Stanley (Grayson, Ga.), Katie Naumoff (Poland, Ohio) and Ali Wiegand (Tallahassee, Fla.) along with Fettes were the only other Panthers to
hit for the first game.
In game two, freshman hurler Ida Danielson (Fairfield, Cal.) moved over from first for relief work in the fourth inning replacing starter Amber West
(Apopka, Fla.) and despite throwing four innings allowing only one unearned run on four hits managed the loss.
Both Danielson and junior Ashley Lugo (Cape Coral, Fla.) plated Fettes and pinch runner Rebecca Cavazos (Dallas, Texas) for the two runs for Tech.
Tying up the game in the bottom of the fourth, Tech had a second chance for a comeback and unfortunately an unearned run by Cristina DeTagle in the sixth
after a ball got through the short stop Laura Chisena (Ocoee, Fla.) notched their fate.
