Immigration Acculturation Expert to Speak at Florida Tech Nov. 14; Open to Public, Free

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Institute for Cross-Cultural Management at Florida Institute of Technology presents John Berry Nov. 14 in the Leaders Engaging Globally Speaker Series. Berry’s one-and-a-half-hour lecture, “Immigrant Acculturation: Psychological and Social Adaptations,” will be at 10:30 a.m. in Room 327 of the Harris Center for Science & Engineering. There is no cost for this presentation, which is open to the community.

“His talk will be of particular interest to business leaders who want a better understanding of how global forces are impacting their companies and strategies. Immigration organizations and human resources professionals may also find it useful,” said Richard Griffith, director of the institute and Florida Tech professor of industrial/organizational psychology.

Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Queen’s University, Canada, Berry was awarded honorary doctorates from the University of Athens and University of Geneva in 2001. He has published over 30 books in the areas of cross-cultural, social and cognitive psychology with various colleagues. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association, the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study, the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology, and the International Academy for Intercultural Research, from which he received a Lifetime Contribution Award. His main research interests are in acculturation and intercultural relations, with an emphasis on applications to immigration, educational and health policy. He received his undergraduate degree from Sir George Williams University and his Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh.
