Florida Tech Falcons Air Team Earns Right to Nationals

– The Florida Tech Falcons Precision Flight Team took second place in the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) Region IX Safety and Flight
Evaluation Conference. Florida Tech hosted the 2003 regional ‘SAFECON’ on campus and at Melbourne International Airport in mid-November.

The teams displayed their expertise in aerial navigation, precision landings, flight computer accuracy, comprehensive flight planning, instrument flight
and aircraft recognition. Florida Tech’s Julien Brouillard took first place in the short field landing event; the university’s Jared Maynard and Jack Sabba
ranked first in the aircraft navigation event.

Florida Tech’s placement qualifies the team to compete among approximately 27 schools in NIFA’s national conference, SAFECON 2004. It will be held April 25
– May 1 at Middle Tennessee State University in Smyrna . The team’s faculty advisor is Robert Schuster.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University took first place. Other competing teams were from Jacksonville University , Miami-Dade College and Auburn University .

Aviation-related undergraduate degrees in the Florida Tech School of Aeronautics currently include six bachelor of science degrees. Three of the bachelor’s
degrees have a flight option. The university also offers four master’s degrees and a doctoral degree in science education with a concentration in
aeronautics.
