Biology Students Compete in Tennessee Biology Conference

Florida Tech biological sciences majors and members of the university’s Sigma Psi chapter of Tri Beta competed recently at the Tri Beta Southeast Regional
meeting in Gatlinburg, Tenn. Tri Beta is the national biological sciences honors society.

Amy Geller, working with undergraduate student, Charles Allen and research scientist, Lisa Moore, presented a poster entitled “Catecholamine-Induced
Changes in Vascular A7r5 Cell Gap Junctions Following Exposure to Adrenalin Metabolites.” An example of Catecholamine is adrenaline.

Amy Perkins, working with faculty advisor, Dr. Jonathan Shenker and with help from graduate student, Matt Scripter, presented a talk entitled
“Determination of Nursery Habitats Used by Centropomus Undecimalis (snook) as Determined by Otolith Microchemistry.”

Perkins, immediate past president of Tri-Beta’s District One in the Southeast Region, also moderated one session of talks, reported on activities of the
Sigma Psi chapter in the annual business meeting, and presented awards to winning poster and paper presenters.

The Sigma Psi chapter traveled farther than any other to attend this meeting.
