Panthers Out-Claw Bobcats Proving They are Kings of the Women’s Soccer Jungle

MIAMI, Fla.(women’s soccer) – Florida Tech earns their fourth shutout on the season as they defeat the Bobcats of St. Thomas University 2-0 in a
non-conference match in Miami.

Several early scoring chances set the path for the Panthers victory over the Bobcats with Miranda Tessier (Vero Beach, Fla.), Erica Hildreth (Cocoa Beach,
Fla.), and Teresa Brantley (Satellite Beach, Fla.) setting the pace for Tech.

The Panthers pressured the Bobcats with some nice play in the midfield with combinations of strikers and outside midfielders to record scoring chances.
They broke through in the 44th minute with Alef DuRant-Wise (Eureka, Cal) finding Rachel Devlin (Titusville, Fl) on a through ball into the 18 yard box.
Devlin buried the ball to notch the first goal of the game and the eventual game winner going into the half.

The second half started much like the first with the Panthers pressing immediately off the break, but they couldn’t gather the finishing touches to put the
Bobcats away. The insurance goal came when Tech notched the final goal of the game in the 69th minute. Freshman Jennifer Gillette (Ormond Beach, Fla.)
found Teresa Brantley (Satellite Beach, Fla.) on another through ball which opened Brantley to a 1v1 with the goalie. Brantley proceeded to bury the shot
in the back of the net.

Freshman goalie Melissa Pyles (Port Orange, Fl) earned her third shutout on the season and now holds a record of 3-2-1 on her collegiate career. Pyles was
also awarded the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week on September 18, 2006 for the first time in her college career.

The Panthers next play Tampa on September 24th in Tampa at 2 pm.
