Panthers Outclaw Lions in SSC Women’s Action

SAINT LEO, Fla. (women’s basketball) — A three-hour bus trip to Pasco County proved to be no obstacle for the Florida Tech women’s basketball team, as the
Panthers bounced back from their first Sunshine State Conference loss of the year to claim a 52-45 victory over Saint Leo University in SSC action Saturday
afternoon in the Marion Bowman Activities Center.

A balanced offensive attack was the name of the game, as Florida Tech (12-3 overall, 4-1 SSC) did not have a single player score in double digits, but four
Panthers scored between seven and nine points. Junior Kristin Heminger (Merritt Island, Fla.) and freshman Lindsay Greene (Stallings, N.C.) led the way
with nine points apiece, while senior Danise Fequiere (Miami, Fla.) added eight points and senior Jennifer Tamilio (Boston, Mass.) chipped in seven.

Saint Leo scored the first nine points of the game before the Panthers managed to get on the scoreboard for the first time four minutes into the contest.
Florida Tech bounced back from the 9-0 deficit quickly, rattling off eight straight points to trim the Lions’ lead to 9-8 at the 13:31 mark. Tech took its
first lead of the game, 20-18 on a Greene layup with 4:38 to play, but the teams were tied 22-22 at halftime.

Florida Tech opened the second half with a 13-3 run over the first five minutes to sprint out to a 35-25 lead. Saint Leo trimmed the lead to two points on
two different occasions over the next five minutes, but the Panthers outscored the Lions 14-9 over the final 10 minutes of play to seal the seven-point
victory.

Florida Tech shot just 29.5% from the field, but used a stout defense to limit Saint Leo to just 33.3% shooting. The Panthers also forced 21 turnovers and
claimed a 46-41 edge in rebounds. Defensively, junior Amanda Muns (Chico, Texas) pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, while Tamilio notched a game-high
four steals.

Juniors Amanda Holloway (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Roni Carithers (Tampa, Fla.) and senior Ariel Walker (Lake City, Fla.) scored 10 points apiece to pace
Saint Leo (3-11, 1-3). Junior Marquita Fenn (Fort Pierce, Fla.) grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds for the Lions.

Florida Tech returns to action on Wednesday when SSC rival Barry University visits the Clemente Center for a 5:30 p.m. contest. Remember fans to watch and
