Pi Kappa Alpha Chapter Receives National Awards

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Tech’s Zeta Sigma Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity was awarded four achievement awards at the 2006 International
Convention, held recently in Orlando, Fla.
First, the chapter earned recognition for participation in International Work Day. On this day, chapters and other Pi Kappa Alpha organizations work on a
designated day with students, alumni, parents and friends to improve the chapter house and/or grounds. The Zeta Sigma Chapter worked to hurricane-proof
their waterfront house on this day.
Second, the chapter received special recognition for donations from 100 percent of their undergraduate chapter membership to the Pi Kappa Alpha Society.
This national endowment fund was established to allow undergraduate members to donate to the fraternity’s educational foundation while still in school.
Each of the chapter’s 58 members donated $25 or more to the society.
Third, the chapter was presented with the year’s Chapter Finance Award. This goes to the chapter that demonstrates the most outstanding overall
financial  management. The chapter earned the honor by founding an endowment fund for awarding scholarships to active and new members who best
exemplify the values of Pi Kappa Alpha.
Finally, due to its dedication and hard work, Zeta Sigma received the Chapter Excellence Award. This is presented annually to the top 15 percent of all Pi
Kappa Alpha chapters, based on excellence in programming, recruitment, retention, and scholarship. Zeta Sigma has received this high honor for three of the
last four years.
The Convention, the legislative body of the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity, is composed mainly of undergraduate delegates representing their 201
chapters and seven colonies. The latest was the 65th International Convention since the founding of Pi Kappa Alpha in 1868.
Award recipients are selected by the International Awards Committee, composed of several members of the Fraternity’s professional staff. All of the
200-plus chapters and colonies, who submit applications may be considered for these awards.
