Panthers Slam the Gate

WINGATE, N.C.. (women’s tennis) — Florida Tech (8-10) came up with their second big NCAA III Southeast Regional victory on their first road trip out of the
state of Florida traveling to the Carolina’s for regional tennis action. Tech downed the Bulldogs of Wingate College (2-15) 7-to-2 sweeping their northern
excursion.

The Crimson and Gray racketeers have now officially doubled their previous program record for single season wins. Three Panthers hold individual winning
records on the season while both the #1 and #2 doubles are now 10-5 on the year.

Junior Michaela Horvathova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and freshman Natalia Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) along with sophomore captain Nicole David (Fort
Pierce, Fla.) and freshman Andrea Madrigal (San Jose, Costa Rica) went undefeated for the trip achieving a season doubles winning percentage of .666.

In the latest ITA regional poll Horvathova and Ramos again earned a spot in the regional rankings as a pair with a 9th place spot. For the year, David
holds the best doubles record going 10-5 with Madrigal and 2-1 with senior Tania Gay (Caracas, Venezuela).

The Panthers controlled the doubles 2-to-1 with #1 and #2 winning their matches 8-3 and 8-4, unfortunately Gay and her tandem freshman partner Valerie
Rapson (Rochester, N.Y.) fell 8-2.

Horvathova easily took the #1 flight 6-0, 6-3 defeating Sydney Pallesen (Calgary, Alberta) to improve to 10-8 thus far in 2007. In the #2 singles flight,
Ramos controlled both sets winning 6-0, 6-1. Ramos is 9-4 in individual action after upsetting Hollyn Alberghini (Stanfield, N.C.). Madrigal, currently
leading the team with an 11-7 personal record, shut down Pierce Dillard (Simpsonville, S.C.) 6-0, 6-0 in the #3 flight. Also going undefeated for the
journey, David downed Brittany Ruffner (Sandy Hook, Va.) 6-1, 6-1 in the #4 position.

Again Gay came up with her second straight win in the #5 flight for Tech. Gay battled to a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Paige Mincey (Savannah, Ga.). Despite
winning a game in each set, Rapson fell 6-1, 6-1 o Ashley Keefer (Darnestown, Md.) in the match.

The Panthers will be back on home territory hosting SSC rival Florida Southern on Tuesday
