Panthers Spear Sailfish in South Region Mens Soccer Action
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — After a two tough weeks, Florida Tech prevailed defeating the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 3-2 in NCAA II south region men’s soccer
action this afternoon at the Lantana Park field. Senior captain defender Brian Lundy (Satellite Beach, Fla.) had a hand in two of the three goals scored
for the Panthers including the game winner.
Tech struck first at the 15th minute when freshman forward Ross Allen found the back of the net off a lob pass by Lundy. Allen, the Panthers leading
scorer, notched his 13th goal on the season tying for the top spot in the SSC.
The Sailfish when Matt Sweesy and Cheyne Roberts scored consecutively in the 46th and 47th minute coming off the break. Roberts had the assist on their
first goal and Daniel Abrahamsohn recorded the assist on the second goal. The Panthers not setting their defensive stance up right out of the half-time
allowed the Sailfish to grab the 2-1.
Senior forward reservist Chris Pruden (Ashburn, Va.) answered back in the 74th minute launching the game knotting header off a corner kick by sophomore
midfielder Ryan Hagerty (Palm Bay, Fla.).
Eleven minutes later, the crimson and gray again took advantage of a corner kick when Lundy headed the game winner off the free corner by sophomore
teammate Edward Oyarce (Miami, Fla.).
Sophomore keeper Cory Collins (Melbourne, Fla.) picked up his 4th win with two saves and two goals against. The Panthers led offensively with 12 shots to
the home team’s nine for the game. Tech also took advantage of the four corner chances Tech had while Palm Beach Atlantic’s had eight corner kicks.
Tech will face Nova Southeastern on Friday, October 20th at 7:00 p.m. in another Sunshine State Conference match-up down in Ft. Lauderdale. On Sunday the
22nd, the Panthers will finish off their regular season play playing a make-up game against Eckerd at 6:00 p.m. The Panthers need to win both games for the
possibility of a spot in the six team SSC tournament.
