Panthers Split in Day One of Azalea Volleyball Classic

VALDOSTA, Ga. (volleyball)- Day one of the Azalea Volleyball Classic hosted by Valdosta State University brought Florida Tech their first win on the season
splitting the day losing 3-0 to the host Blazers and shutting down Coker College 3-0.

In the first match, Tech fell 30-23, 30-16 and 30-25 to the Blazers being out hit .136 to a .061 attack percentage for the match. Defensively, the Panthers
out-hustled Valdosta State shagging 62 digs to 57 for the afternoon. Tech, also won out at the net with a team 14 blocks to the Blazers 13 for the match.

Freshman outside hitter Frankie Brown (Panama City, Fla.) led all hitters with 14 kills and a .379 attack percentage. Both Frankie Brown and junior setter
Amanda Boyce (Madison, Wis.) both notched double doubles. Brown added 17 digs while had 27 assists and 11 digs. Freshman libero Melissa Reinders (Orlando,
Fla.) led all players with 19 digs for the match.

Tech came back strong taking the nightcap in three games 30-25, 30-28 and 30-28. Junior middle hitter Leigh Ann Brown grabbed her career high in attack
percentage hitting .636 for the win. Leigh Ann Brown had seven kills and four block helping Tech gain their first victory. Fellow middle hitters’, both
hailing from Titusville, Fla., senior Jenny McCoy and junior Lindsay Foster each had 10 kills. McCoy chipped in 4 blocks while Foster had three including
two block solos at the net.

Boyce added 40 assists. While both Boyce and Reinders had 13 digs respectively. Senior outside hitter Megan Konopnicki (Plano, Tex.) hit .273 with nine
kills and tallied 20 digs.

The “Brown” sisters led the way for the day with Leigh Ann tallying a team high .444 attack percentage while Frankie led with 23 kills. Reinders totaled 32
digs. McCoy finished with eight blocks.

The Panthers (1-2) will be back in action early tomorrow morning facing Augusta State at 8:00 a.m. and finish off the tournament against Presbyterian
College at 2:00 p.m. at the PE Complex on the campus of Valdosta State University.
