Florida Tech Surfing Team Makes Waves, Takes 1st Place in NSSA Competition

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Florida Institute of Technology Surfing team recently took first place in the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) Southeast/North Conference, nabbing its third win of the season. The Florida Tech team will compete in the Southeast/North College Team season’s seventh event at New Smyrna Beach Inlet in March.

Five Florida Tech team members finished in the top three in their respective categories. Team captain Sebastian Moreno finished first in the men’s division followed by co-captain Justin Ellingham. Allison Randolph finished second in the women’s division. Will Cole and Aaron Privett finished second and third in the longboard division.

The Florida Tech team also includes men’s shortboard experts Billy Scott, Pat Brennan, Pat Reilly, Ryan Barnett, Kiki Roettger, Samuel Breit, Spencer Jenkins, Chris Romano, Chris Waldschmitt and Jared McNally; women’s shortboard experts are Alex Barber, Ashley Privett, and Katie Spagnolo. Billy Scott and Ryan Barnett also compete in the longboard division.

The team is sponsored by the Florida Tech Student Government Association.

Those who are interested in learning how to surf or in surfing in general, can join the team’s club on campus.
