Panthers Take SSC Series from Rollins by Sweeping Tars in Day Two

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Panthers awaked as they faced Rollins College in the second day of the Sunshine State Conference series taking both games of the
double header 14-0 in game one and then 9-2 in game two to take the series 2-1 over the Tars.

In game one, Tech’s starting pitcher Mike Piazza (Pt. St. Lucie, Fla.) pitched a five strikeout three hit seven innings as Piazza earned his fifth win on
the year in the shutout over the Tars. Piazza managed to get the visiting Tars to ground out ten times and fly out six times in the 26 batters faced on the
afternoon.

Offensively the Panthers were running on all cylinders as Tech scored a run in all but the fifth inning. Tech started off by scoring three in the first
then three more in the second. The third, the Panthers would only score one run but then score three more in the fourth. The fifth inning was the only
inning the Panthers didn’t score a run but made the runs up in the sixth, seventh, and eighth as they scored four runs marking a total of 14 in their last
three innings at the plate.

Leading the way for the Panthers was JD Davidson (Naples, Fla.) going 4-4 all for base hits. Davidson also drove in three runs in the first game tying with
Steve Condotta (Mississauga, Ontario) who also had three RBI. Steve combined for three of the Panthers 16 hits in the early game. Eamonn Powers (Staten
Island, NY) also combined for three hits while driving in two RBI. Kevin Villa (Miami, Fla.) also drove in two RBI while Brendan Twomey (Boca Raton, Fla.),
BJ Veronee (Chester, VA), and Danny Sutton (Land O’Lakes, Fla.) all drove in one RBI apiece. Sutton was the fourth Panther player to have a multiple hit
game combining for two hits. The other base hits were tallied by Nick Brennan (Detroit, Mich.), Sam Palace (Clarkston, Mich.), and Twomey totaling the 16
hits in the game.

The shutout over the Tars in game one of the double header marked the Panthers third shutout on the season. Relief pitchers Mike McFadden (Richmond Hill,
Ontario) and Matt Woods (Lake Hamilton, Fla.) who finished off the game for the Panthers on the mound faced eight Rollins batters combined to get three
ground outs one for a double play in the ninth inning and one pop out to clinch the victory.

In game two the Panthers started out slow but quickly exploded after the third inning of play. First Steve Condotta hit his first of two hits in the game
in the first inning as Kevin Villa (Miami, Fla.) doubled down the left line in the second and then with Nick Brennan (Detroit, Mich.) smacking the ball
down the left line for one of his two hits in game two.

On the other side of the diamond, the Panthers starting pitcher Jonathan Cornelius (Land O’Lakes, Fla.) pitched for the Panthers another strong game as he
went four innings striking out two batters but utilized his defense behind him as got Rollins to ground out five times and fly out three times. Coming in
to pitch for the Panthers was Jake Koch (Orlando, Fla.) who pitched effectively to receive the save for the Panthers pitched 3.0 innings allowing only one
hit while getting the Tars to ground out five times and fly out seven times in the eleven batters faced. Koch went on to receive his sixth save of the year
as Cornelius earned his third win on the year. The combination between Cornelius and Koch only allowed five hits and two runs.

Looking to continue the success from last game, the Panthers exploded going on a six run four hit fourth inning opening a 6-1 lead. Steve Condotta started
things off with a walk as Kevin Villa (Miami, Fla.) drove Steve in for the first run of the inning with a single to center. Villa would be driven in from a
base hit from Trevor Hearl (Cape Coral, Fla.) and then a base hit by Brendan Twomey would clear the bases of Sutton and Brennan for the fifth and sixth
runs of the inning.

The Panthers would threaten again in the fifth but would end as Villa would be gunned down at home off a nicely executed relay by the Tars after Will
Lanier (Jacksonville, Fla.) singled to right field. But in the sixth, the Panther went on to mark another three runs to finish with a nine run game. The
first four batters of the sixth inning reached base with three of the four scoring the three runs. Sutton reached on a walk; Brennan hit his second base
hit of the game, while Twomey drove in his fourth RBI of the game; knocking in Sutton. Brennan would come around off of Condotta’s second hit of the game
with a double into left field.

The Panthers again would hit the double digit mark in hits with 11 scoring nine runs. Steve Condotta and Will Lanier would each go two for three from the
plate as Nick Brennan, Brendan Twomey, and Kevin Villa all went two for four from the plate. Four Panther batters drove in a run but Brendan Twomey
gathered a total of four RBI knocking in three runs in the fourth inning.

Tech improves to 21-10 overall and 6-3 in the SSC and will face Nova Southeastern on Tuesday, March 27th in a non-conference game at the Andy Seminick-Les
Hall Field starting at 3 pm.
