Panthers Take Two of Three in Day Two of Moccasins Invitational

LAKELAND, Fla. – Day two of the Florida Southern Softball Invitational, the Panthers captured two of three games defeating the Bulldogs of Bryant
University in a come from behind win in the 10th and an onslaught of runs compiling 18 in the win over Hillsdale; Tech’s lone loss came against the
Spartans of the University of Tampa in the first game of the day.

Game one saw the Panthers being downed by the Spartans 4-1 but  in game two the Panthers fought back in the 6th and 7th inning to take the game
into extra softball and eventually won the game in the 10th 6-5 against Bryant University. In the final game, the Panthers opened an onslaught of hits in
runs at their first at bat and pounced on Hillsdale College 18-2.

Facing the University of Tampa the Panthers threatened right off the start in the first as Katie Naumoff (Poland, OH) drove a double down the leftfield
line but was tagged out to end the inning in a double play line drive. Again in the third, Tech had two on at second and third but couldn’t knock a run in
as they left two on the bases. Failing to hit Kristen Fettes (Deltona, Fla.) hit in who reached third in the fourth the game stayed notched 0-0.

Pitching a strong five innings, Judith Husband (Wewahitchka, Fla.) only allowed four hits through the first five keeping the Panthers in stride with Tampa.
Starting the sixth, Tampa marked the first run off a lead off homerun to center field. Two batters later and runner on first due to a walk, the Spartans
smacked another two runs in from another center field two run homerun.

Coming up in the sixth after Tampa took a 3-0 lead, the Panthers rallied but could only get one run. A lead off base hit from Danielle Stanley (Garyson,
Ga.) started the small rally and three batters later Ashley Lugo (Cape Coral, Fla.) drove in the lone Tech run. Tampa would score their fourth run in the
seventh to seal the deal for the Spartans taking a 4-1 victory over the Panthers.

In game two the Panthers gathered up three hits in the first two innings but like the first game couldn’t execute to drive in any runs. Bryant University
got the scoring started in the third with three hits scoring one run off a double that reached the wall in left center taking a 1-0 lead. Through the next
two Tech innings, the Panthers were still being shutout going into the fifth inning.

Bryant in the fifth scored three more runs pushing a 4-0 lead from a three run homerun that smacked the leftfield foul poll. The Panthers fifth started the
rally and comeback Ali Wiengand (Tallahassee, Fla.) started the inning off with a double. A throwing error by Bryant’s catcher drove Wiengand in from third
to mark the Panthers first run of the game.

Getting out of the threatening Bulldogs sixth inning, the Panthers started their sixth with back to back singles by Ida Danielson (Fairfield, Cal.) and Jen
Wise (Lakeland, Fla.). A fielder’s choice ground ball by Laura Chisena (Ocoee, Fla.) pushed the runners up a base into scoring position. Two batters later,
Leah Tymeson (Lincoln University, PA) smacked a fly ball to right field that the right fielder couldn’t control which drove in Danielson and Wise to get
with one 4-3 to Bryant. A solo homerun by Ashley Lugo (Cape Coral, Fla.) to lead off the seventh inning tied the game at 4-4 to extend the game into extra
softball; Lugo’s homerun was her fourth of the season.

Going into extra innings, the Bulldogs and Panthers both drove in the runners that were put on second base. Bryant drove in the run from a sacrifice fly
while Danielle Stanely (Garyson, Ga.) knocked in Wiengand with a base hit. In the ninth, Bryant and Tech matched each other as both pitchers saw only four
batters.

In the tenth, Judith Husband who came in the fifth and finished the game for her 14th win of the year pitched a one, two, three inning. At the plate and
Wiengand placed at second, Leah Tymeson moved Ali over to third on an executed sacrifice bunt. After a line drive back to the pitcher by Stanley, Naumoff
drove in the winning run through the right side of the infield for the Panthers 6-5 victory over the Bulldogs.

In the final game going against the Chargers of Hillsdale College, the Panthers opened up a landslide of hits and runs in the top of the first taking a
12-0 lead before the Chargers were able to grab the bats on offense.

Getting out of the gates quickly, the Panthers strung together nine hits with twelve runs in the first. In the inning, the Panther combined for six base
hits, two doubles and a two run homerun blast by Jen Wise (Lakeland, Fla.) who marked her fourth of the year.

Tech would put one more up in the second inning with three base hits as Danielle Stanley drove in the lone run. The compacted power from the 5’2 junior
transfer outfielder Jen Wise smacked her fifth homerun of the year in the third inning as she took sole position leading the Panthers with homeruns
totaling five.

Tech would score three more in the fourth off three consecutive hits as Jen Hall (Rockledge, Fla.) led the inning off with a single then back to back
doubles by Stanley and Naumoff scored two runs. Naumoff would score off a sacrifice fly by Ashley Lugo to mark the third run of the inning. The Crimson and
Grey would mark their 18th run in the fifth as a double by Ali Wiengand drove in Danielson at second as she reached on a walk then advanced to second from
a fielder’s choice.

Tech marked a run in every inning of the five innings game against the Chargers as they went to total seventeen hits scoring eighteen runs.

On the mound was ace pitcher Amber West (Apopka, Fla.) who only gave up a walk through the first three innings. Amber would finish the game with six
strikeouts, one walk, and four hits. West got the Chargers to ground out six times and fly out two times for her 10th win of the year.

Hillsdale didn’t go down without fighting as they strung together a two hit two run fourth inning to get two runs up on the board against the Panthers.

At the end of the tournament, the Panthers walked away with a 3-2 record taking their overall record to 30-15 overall. Head Coach Ellie O’Shei in her
second her at Florida Tech is only one win shy of the teams final total wins of 31 from just a year ago with a third of their season still ahead of them.
