Panthers Tame Lions with a 70-54 Victory

MELBOURNE, Fla. (women’s basketball) – Three Panther players score in double figures against the Lions for the season sweep with a score of 70-54 to take
their Sunshine State Conference record to 11-2 (19-4 overall).

Tech coming off an overtime victory over Eckerd College came out setting the tempo against the Lions as Tech swarmed St. Leo on defense causing 11
turnovers in the first half and a total of 22 turnovers for the game.

Battling early against St. Leo, the Panthers settled in after ten minutes of play to push a seven point lead with six minutes to play in the first half and
then taking an eleven point lead of 41-30 going into intermission. Tech converted 13 points off the 11 turnovers while shooting 47.2% from the field and
55.6% from beyond the arc.

Staying hungry, Tech came out firing again in the second half pushing a comfortable 15 point lead with just over fifteen minutes to play. The Lions not
folding would push to cut the lead to nine at 58-49 with seven minutes to play but the solid play of the Panthers wouldn’t allowing the Lions any closer.
The Panthers ran away with the game pushing back to a 15 point lead and finished the game with 16 point victory of 70-54 over Saint Leo.

In the end, Tech combined to cause 22 turnovers with 10 steals on the night finishing with 20 points off the Lions turnovers. Tech’s offense scored 34
points in the paint to the Lions 28 while coach Reynolds continuous changing of the guards outscored the Lions bench by 33; 45 to 12.

Leading for the Panthers on the night was Kristin Heminger (Merritt Island, Fla.) scoring 14 points on 6 for 12 shooing while Jennifer Tamilio (Boston,
Mass.) and Danielle Vaughn (Tallahassee, Fla.) scored 12 points apiece. Kassi Crimi (Jordan, Minn.), Tenisha Chase (Upper Marlboro, MD), and McKena
Richardson (Quartz Hill, Cali.) chipped in 6 points apiece; Crimi and Richardson also combined for 10 rebounds on the night; 5 apiece. Sabrina Jones
(Orlando, Fla.) had a solid night for the Panthers as she had 5 steals on the night and grabbing 6 rebounds; Jones also chipped in three points on the
offensive side.

Tech stays atop the SSC with a record of 11-2 and 19-4 overall heading into the match up against Barry University on Wednesday, February 14th; the women
