Florida Tech Drops First Game 2-0 Against Flagler

MELBOURNE, Fla.–The Florida Tech Women’s Soccer Team (2-1) suffered their first loss on the season being shut-down by the Flagler College Saints (4-1) at
the Stottler Field this afternoon 2-0.

After a slow start, which saw both teams battling the elements Flagler’s sophomore defender Kelley Lynch (Somers, CT) opened the scoring in the 34th
minute. Lynch took advantage of a the wet conditions as Florida Tech goal keeper sophomore Erica Wales (Huntsville, AL) was unable to hold on to a previous
shot on goal by fellow Saint senior forward Jessica Potter (Ormond Beach, FL).

Despite a great shot on goal by sophomore forward Ericka Hildreth (Cocoa Beach, Florida), Tech’s chance at their first goal was crushed when freshman
defender Lauren Groves cleared the ball after Flagler’s senior goalkeeper Kate Carver (Margate, FL) was drawn out of the net.

The teams would battle for almost 40 more minutes until the next scoring opportunity would arise. In the 72nd minute, Flagler’s senior forward Marissa
McConihay (North Palm Beach, FL) added an insurance goal as she booted home an errant ball which Wales could not control following a Saints’ free kick once
again by Potter.

Tech’s final chance at a point was vanished when junior midfielder Tara Eugenides (Dade City, FL) booted a perfect corner kick to senior midfielder Megan
Kramer (Satellite Beach, FL). The shot was blocked by Carver and headed in the back of the net by Kramer. Due to an offsides call the goal did not count
for Tech, this was to become the Panthers final shot on goal for the game.

Flagler held a 13-8 edge in shots, while Florida Tech claimed an 11-1 edge in corner kicks. Wales and Carver each recorded two saves.

Tech will be back in action on Saturday, September 10th at 4:00 p.m. when the Panthers open up conference play hosting Nova Southeastern at the Stottler
Field.
