Florida Tech’s Day of Giving Draws International Donors, Exceeds Participation Goals

Nearly 2,000 Donors Contributed in 2nd Annual Event

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology’s 2nd Annual Day of Giving on Nov. 29 attracted 1,942 donors from around the world, a 30 percent surge beyond the university’s goal for the international event.

The 24-hour event drew participants from 61 countries.

Featuring a special interactive campaign website at https://dayofgiving.fit.edu/ that included live totals, countries participating and other information tied to the theme of finding Florida Tech mascot Pete the Panther, the university’s Day of Giving was driven by social media: milestones and challenges were announced on Facebook and Twitter, for example. Twitter was also used to engage notable alumni.

The widespread participation is a key factor in how organizations, including the influential ranking publication U.S. News & World Report, perceive the success of a university and how they ultimately rank it.

Florida Tech’s Day of Giving site and the overall donor experience has already helped attract the attention of donor relations expert, author and speaker Lynne Wester. Writing on her blog at DonorRelationsGuru.com about #Giving Tuesday events, she listed Florida Tech’s site as among the “heavenly” examples from organizations that truly understand online donor behavior.

“Once again, FIT blew others out of the water!” she wrote. “Great theme, personalization and infographic of progress!!”

Bino Campanini, vice president for alumni relations and executive director of the Florida Tech Alumni Association, said, “Our alumni once again stepped up and to help make our Day of Giving a great success. We are grateful for their generous support.”

The money raised will support Florida Tech’s greatest needs, including financial aid, research and student activities.
