Pierce, Salois and Wagner Named to the 2006 DII National All-Academic Team

(women’s cross country)–Three Florida Tech female cross country student-athletes were named to the 2006 USTFCCAA NCAA Division II All Academic Women’s
Cross Country Team. Junior Carolyn Salois
(Palm Bay, Fla.) is a three time All-Academic member while senior Jamie Wagner (Arlington Heights, Ill.) is a two
time member. Freshman Megan Pierce
(Seely, Wis.) is a first time honoree.

Salois has also been named a Sunshine State Conference Runner of the Week for 2004, 2005 & 2006. She is also a two time Florida Tech Scholar Athlete
and three time SSC Commissioner’s List of Outstanding Achievement. She is a Chemistry Education Major who predominately heal the number one spot on the
team this season finishing with a .807 winning percentage. Salois grabbed five top 20 finishes including a runner up finish with a career best 19:43 5K and
23:26 6K.

Wagner is four time SSC Commissioners List of Outstanding Achievement member and three time Florida Tech Scholar Athlete. She was highlighted early last
year in the National Fellowship of Christian Athlete’s magazine after organizing Florida Tech’s FCA chapter. She is a Marine Biology major who finished off
her senior year with her highest winning percentage at .644 for the 2006 season. Wagner garnered three top twenty finished with a career best 21:01 5K and
24:56 6K.

Newcomer Pierce is a 2006 Fall Commissioner’s Honor Roll member and completed her freshman campaign in the number two position with a .658 winning
percentage. She had three top twenty finishes with a career best 20:45 5K and 24:35 6K. The 5’2” first year runner is majoring in Environmental Science at
Tech.

Along with the three individual honors the team was also honored as a 2006 DII National All-Academic Team by the Coaches Association.

Esther Komen showed last fall that she’s the top Division II women’s cross country performer in the country. The Western State star won the NCAA Division
II women’s cross country title in November, finishing six seconds in front of the field.

Komen is hardly one-dimensional, however. With a 3.507 grade-point average, she’s also the NCAA Division II All-Academic Women’s Cross Country Athlete of
the Year.

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced today that Komen is one of 170 female student-athletes to earn Division
II Cross Country All-Academic Women’s Individual Awards.

Komen, a sophomore from Iten, Kenya, was named the NCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year following a season in which she placed first
in her three biggest meets – the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships, North Central Regionals, and the NCAA Championships. Komen finished
second in each of those races in 2005 as a Western State freshman.

To qualify for Division II All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 (on 4.0 scale) and finish in
the top 30 at the regional cross country championships.

Adams State, the 2006 NCAA Division II women’s cross country champions, had four athletes earn All-Academic individual honors. Tanya Gaurmer, Lavenna
Mullenbach, Brittany Somers and Heather Wood helped the Grizzles earn recognition last week as the Division II All-Academic Women’s Cross Country Team of
the Year.

Fourteen All-Academic women’s honorees had 4.0 GPAs.

Kim Hogarth of Western State is the Division II All-Academic Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year.
