Renee Foosaner Education Center’s Frits van Eeden Gallery Opens Jeff Filipski Exhibition, Oct. 4

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Renee Foosaner Education Center of the Foosaner Art Museum, Florida Institute of Technology, will present an exhibition of work by artist Jeff Filipski, Oct. 4–Jan. 19, in the Frits van Eeden Gallery.

Filipski works mostly in acrylics, oils and mixed media, and has a style likened to Abstract Expressionism and Dada. A native of Buffalo, N.Y., the artist’s work has been published and shown in numerous underground magazines, including Non-Compos Mentis and The Hold. Filipski has also participated in exhibitions at Art Basel, EGAD Art Lab and is currently an artist-in-residence at the Off Center Art Center in the Eau Gallie Arts District of Melbourne.

“I live realism and I paint what I feel. I paint what I see but what I see is wrong. Life is a stained white shirt that everyone wants to bleach. I don’t want to soothe, I want to evoke thought,” said Filipski.

An opening reception will take place on Friday, Oct. 4, 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the Renee Foosaner Education Center. The event is free to the public and held in conjunction with the Eau Gallie Art District’s First Friday Art Walk.

The Renee Foosaner Education Center is composed of studio and gallery space. In May 2013, the Frits van Eeden Gallery was dedicated to showcase art works created by area art educators. The rest of the building is used for classrooms: a large painting and drawing studio, pottery studio with 10 wheels and several kilns, and a printmaking studio.
The center is located at 1520 Highland Ave. in the Eau Gallie Arts District of Melbourne. The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Call (321) 674-8923 for more information.
