Volleyball Battles, Falls to Eckerd

MELBOURNE, Fla. – (Sept. 21) Florida Tech played a tough game against the Eckerd Tritons tonight, but fell short 3-1. This brings the Panthers record to
12-3 as they remain winless in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) play.

Leading the attack for the Panthers were Sacha Gumbs with 16 kills, Marcela Vasconcelos with 48 assists and
Amanda Boyce with 18 digs. Frankie Brown also added 14 kills.

Standouts for the Tritons included Lydee Benoit with 22 kills, Shannon Ruby with 58 assists and Angela White with 20 digs.

Game one started out slow for the Panthers as Eckerd shot ahead with a seven point lead. Tech slowly chipped their way back in, but the Tritons took the
game 30-24. Game two found the Panthers in a similar conundrum as the Tritons controlled most of the game. Tech fought back and took the lead at 27 to win
30-27. Game three was neck-and-neck until the Panthers took the lead at five. They managed to hold on through out the teeter-totter, but Eckerd took the
lead in the end to win 30-27.  Eckerd scored four quick points at the start of game four and maintained control of the game with Tech trying to fight
their way back in. The Panthers surged with Vasconcelos at the service line on Eckerd’s match point, but an Eckerd block sealed their fate
with a loss 22-30.

The Panthers will return to the Clemente Center tomorrow at 4 p.m. as they continue SSC play against the Saint Leo Lions.
