Rotary Club, Florida Tech Provide Scholarships, Invest in Brevards Future

Ninth Annual Moon River Music & Magic Set for April 9

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Rotary Club of Indialantic, in collaboration with Florida Institute of Technology, is hosting the Ninth Annual Moon River Music & Magic. The event, a fundraiser for students entering college, is scheduled for April 9, from 6 to 9 p.m., on campus. The scholarship program focuses on retaining Brevard’s best and brightest to pursue higher education at Florida Tech.

“I applaud this event, which supports upstanding youths in realizing their dreams of a college education. Florida Tech is honored to take part,” Florida Tech President Anthony J. Catanese said.

The event will feature unlimited gourmet food and beverages, live and silent auctions, and an antique car show. Entertainment will be provided by live bands, including The Atlantic Blue Grass Band and TWITCHY, Florida Tech’s own faculty rock ‘n roll band, and Jack Smink will make a cameo appearance as Elvis. A fine arts display will be set up in the Evans Library and conducted tours will take guests to the university’s Botanical Garden and the Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts.

Brevard high school graduating seniors, who have been identified as prospective scholarship candidates, will be interviewed and selected based on criteria that include academic standing, financial need, leadership qualities and community involvement. Since the mid-‘80s, the Rotary Club of Indialantic has provided college scholarships worth over $100,000 to more than 70 South Brevard high school graduates. In addition, more than $150,000 in cash contributions have been made to local social and welfare organizations. Individual member donations and club-sponsored fundraisers have provided these funds since the club’s founding in 1958.

Catanese, an active member of the Rotary Club of Indialantic, matched dollar-for-dollar the funds raised last year and will make the same match this year.

With financial support from Florida Tech and assistance from its enrollment management and admission staff, the Rotary Club will work to identify and assist college-bound seniors throughout Brevard who have applied for Florida Tech admission.

The donation for the event is $50 per person.

Organizations and individuals are invited to make donations to help finance the scholarship program. These may be made to the Indialantic Rotary Foundation, a 501(c)(3) registered tax-exempt corporation. Donations can be mailed to: Rotary Club of Indialantic, P.O.
