Sailing Club Places Second in Eckerd College Regatta
MELBOURNE, FLA. —The Florida Institute of Technology Sailing Club recently finished second at the Eckerd Regatta in St. Petersburg, Fla. That result and a fourth place at a Rollins College Regatta earlier, earned the team the honor of qualifying for the SAISA Co-ed Championships.
In the Eckerd event the university placed second among nine teams; at Rollins College Florida Tech was fourth among eight teams.
Competing in all six South Point Regattas in the fall semester, the Florida Tech team was up against the University of Florida, University of South Florida Rollins College, Eckerd College, University of Miami, New College, Florida Gulf Coast University, Jacksonville University, Florida Atlantic University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Back in March the Florida Tech team finished third among 13 teams at the Nelson Roltsch Intersectional Regatta, a two-day competition in New Orleans, La.
“The sailing team is getting better all the time. It is competing with many high-caliber junior sailors and should be very proud of its progression,” said Dave Noble of Noble Awards, a team supporter and volunteer.
Currently there are more than 300 members in the Sailing Club with faculty member Stephen Wood, ocean engineering program chair, as adviser.
