Scott Center for Autism Treatment and Crowdrise Partner to Raise Funds for Autism

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Scott Center for Autism Treatment at Florida Institute of Technology has partnered with Crowdrise to raise money for autism in conjunction with the State Farm Melbourne Music Marathon Weekend on Feb. 4-5, 2012. Crowdrise, a fundraising and volunteering website where individuals can create personalized pages for specific causes, uses the effectiveness of social networking to spread the word.

“The Scott Center for Autism Treatment is excited to have teamed up with Crowdrise and the Melbourne Marathon,” said Colleen Middlebrooks, outreach coordinator, The Scott Center. “This is an exciting method of fundraising though social media that we are hoping the entire running community embraces.”

Runners and supporters can donate at http://www.crowdrise.com/MelbourneMusicMarathon or create their own Crowdrise profile and fundraising page as an individual, an existing team or a new team to raise money. All funds raised will benefit The Scott Center. The Melbourne Marathon will also provide incentives to donate. Currently, donors who give exactly $29 on Crowdrise by Jan. 15, 2012, are entered for a chance to win an iPad2.

Crowdrise was created by actor and activist Edward Norton, producer Sauna Robertson and online retailer Moosejaw founders Robert and Jeffrey Wolfe. In 2009, Crowdrise started as a unique fundraising campaign to raise money for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust during the New York City Marathon. The campaign raised $1.2 million in less than eight weeks. Today, Crowdrise facilitates millions of fundraisers in over a million different charities.
