Security Officer Receives Commendation

– Florida Tech security officer David Touma has received a certificate of commendation from the Melbourne Police Department. He received the commendation
for actions he took in December, 2005.

Touma spotted a suspect on campus who was wanted by the Melbourne Police Department for committing more than 60 burglaries and many other felonies in and
around the Melbourne area. Touma followed the individual while simultaneously notifying the police department of the suspect’s location. He then directed
efforts in apprehending the burglary suspect.

The officer’s commendation, signed by Donald L. Carey, chief of police, reads, part: “In recognition of your superior alertness and swift actions in
recognizing and reporting the whereabouts of a burglary suspect, thereby giving crucial assistance to the Melbourne Police Department.”

Officer Touma, a Melbourne resident, has been with the Florida Tech Department of Security for four years.
