Softball Begins Fall Practice with Championship in Mind
MELBOURNE, Fla. – (Softball) Florida Tech softball began its fall practice season Tuesday. The team will meet four times a week for six weeks and play
three scrimmages throughout this time. The team and head coach Ellie Hanover are excited to begin the season and have a goal of winning
the Sunshine State Conference Championship.
“Last year was very disappointing because we thought we earned a spot in the regional tournament after playing well through a tough schedule and beating
Top 25 teams,” said Hanover. “We know first hand how hard it is to get into the tournament. The only sure ticket in is to win conference and that is our
ultimate goal.”
Returning to the mound this year is second team All-SSC pitcher Amber West. West and the rest of the veterans are the driving force for
Panther softball.
“I am so pleased with all of the returning leadership this year. They are very focused on winning a championship. Last year was heart-breaking for them,”
said Hanover.
In addition to the veterans, the Panthers have picked up some outstanding freshmen and transfer students.
“The freshman have played competitive ball over the summer for some of the top teams in the country. Their experience is going to give them a chance to
dive right in,” the coach said.
The focus of fall practice is to work on individual skills. Each of the players’ mechanics and fundamentals will be addressed in an effort to turn
weaknesses into strengths.
“Everyone is committed to doing what they need to individually and that will help us as a team in the spring,” said Hanover. “I am very excited about what
I see for this time of year and we are going to see great things in spring. I think we’ve got a real shot at winning our first conference championship
this year.”
Panther softball will have three scrimmages this fall at Palm Bay Community College. The dates are:
Saturday, October 13
Saturday, November 3
Saturday November 10
Each scrimmage will start at 10 a.m.
