Florida Tech Students are Gates Millennium Scholars

MELBOURNE, FLA. — A Florida Tech junior and a sophomore are studying under the Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) program, part of the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation. The two have earned an annual GMS award since their freshman year.

They are Shayna Begay, a junior aerospace engineering major from Cortez, Colo., and Bridgette Wiley, a sophomore computer science major from Havelock, N.C.
Begay graduated from Montezuma-Cortez High School in 2006. Wiley was salutatorian at her 2006 graduation from Havelock High School.

The GMS program was created to provide academically talented, low-income African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American
and Hispanic American students with a financial opportunity to complete a college education.

Since 1999, more than 11,000 students have received GMS awards.

Florida Tech has been named one of America’s best colleges by U.S. News & World Report for 18 consecutive years, a “Best Buy” by Barron’s
Best Buys in College Education, and is ranked as a Best Southeastern College by The Princeton Review. Washington Monthly magazine
has named Florida Tech the top private university in Florida and Fiske Guide to Colleges designated Florida Tech one of 14 top technical
institutions in the United States.
