Softball Suffers Two Losses at Day One of the GSC/SSC Crossover

PENSACOLA, Fla. (softball) — Florida Tech faced host West Florida (2-0) in day one of the Gulf South-Sunshine State Conference Crossover falling 3-2 in both
games with Tech taking the Argonauts to 10 innings in game two for the doubleheader.

Stand-out player for the Panthers was junior newcomer Danielle Stanley (Garyson, Ga.) hitting .429 for the day including one triple on three hits and one
RBI for the two game series. Stanley produced a .714 slugging percentage and a.429 on base percentage. Defensively she finished with a flawless 1.000
fielding percentage in the outfield grabbing four fly balls against the Argonauts.

Senior Katie Naumoff (Poland, Ohio) was the only other Panther to hit safely in both contests batting .233 with two hits and one RBI. Fellow seniors
Kristen Fettes (Deltona, Fla.) and Laura Chisena (Ocoee, Fla.) rounded out the hitting for the day recording a combined two hits with Chisena notching two
runs while Fettes had Tech’s third RBI for the crossover.

Senior starting pitcher Judith Husband (Wewahitchka, Fla.) went 7.1 innings giving up only one unearned run on three hits for the second game. Husband
struck out five and only placed one runner on base after a hit by pitch call. Freshman relief pitcher Heather Boyts (Sarasota, Fla.) suffered the loss
finishing off the final 2.2 innings in the 10 inning heartbreaker. Boyts allowed two runs on three hits with none earned due to the international
tie-breaker rule of placing a runner on second.

Game one starting pitcher Amber West (Apopka, Fla.) is now 3-1 on the season. West allowed three runs on four hits in the first game. She also fanned three
and walked four Argos in the opener.

Tech started off the day on a high note as the visiting team with Naumoff plating Chisena for the first run in the top of the first inning. The Panthers
again answered back in the top of the second inning when freshman Ida Danielson (Fairfield, Cal.) scored the Crimson ad Gray’s final run off a triple
launched by Stanley.

West managed to hold off the Argos until the bottom of the sixth when the pitcher Emily Burge (Pace, Fla.) smacked a two run homer over right center
knotting the game 2-2. Burge then proceeded to score the game winner after senior Valerie Staub (East Brunswick, N.J.) brought her home on a another double
shot to right center.

In game two both teams waged a pitching duel with Husband and Taren Walton (Pensacola, Fla.) kept the game scoreless until they reached extra inning play.
Again with runners placed on both teams each only managed toe score one run ever half inning until the bottom of the 10th.

Sophomore Rebecca Cavazos (Dallas, Tex.) scored on a wild pitch in the eighth. Chisena score the second run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Fettes. West
Florida’s Staub plated the game winner for the Argonauts finishing with three runs.

Tech came up short in their final inning at bat as the home team stranded junior pinch runner Ashley Coleman (Molalla, Ore.) on third base unable to again
tie the ballgame or take the lead.

Florida Tech (3-3) will be back in action tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. EST) facing Delta State in another doubleheader.
