Softball Sweeps Sailfish in Season Opener

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Senior 2006 Sunshine State All-Conference First Team /2006 All South Region member Katie Naumoff (Poland, Ohio) helped christen the newly
donned Nancy Bottge Field launching her third career home run over the left field wall in game one of the season opener double header against NCAA Division
II South Region opponent’s Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (0-2). Florida Tech (2-0) harpooned the sailfish 3-1 in the first  game and proceeded to shut
down the Palm Beach Atlantic 9-1 in a mercy rule five inning night cap.

Naumoff along with freshman Ida Danielson (Fairfield, Cal.) went 2-for-3 for the day with Danielson hitting .750 while Naumoff finished with a .500 batting
average and an incredible 1.167 slugging percentage. Both Danielson and Naumoff added doubles for the two game series.

All ten of the Panthers batting today in the line-up notched at least one hit for the day. Senior 2006 Second Team All-SSC member Laura Chisena (Ocoee,
Fla.), junior Alex Weigand (Tallahassee, Fla.) and junior Jen Wise (Lakeland, Fla.) each contributed two hits for the day.

Weigand and Naumoff came up big with three runs batted in spreading it across both contests. Senior 2006 First Team All-SSC member Kristen Fettes (Deltona,
Fla.) had two runs on one hit.

Three hurlers made an appearance today with 2006 Second Team All-SSC pitcher Amber West (Apopka, Fla.) notched the first win going a full seven innings
allowing five hits on one run while fanning four.

Senior Judith Husband (Wewahitchka, Fla.), now 1-0, earnes the second win allowing two hits on one run with three strike-outs for four innings. Game
two’s relief pitcher Heather Boyts, a freshman hailing from Sarasota, Fla., made her first collegiate appearance closing the day throwing one inning. She
allowed only one hit today.

Rounding out the Panthers were juniors’ Ashley Coleman (Molalla, Ore.), Ashley Lugo (Cape Coral, Fla.) and Danielle Stanley (Garyson, Ga.) each producing a
hit with Stanley pitching in an RBI.

The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow when the host Florida Gulf Coast University in a make-up series beginning at 2:00 p.m. Remember fans you can
