Dallas Cowboys Legend Tony Dorsett Headlines Inside the Huddle Banquet

Pro Football Hall of Famer to speak at banquet
on Saturday, Aug. 1, on Florida Tech campus

MELBOURNE, FLA. – Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Tony Dorsett will be the featured speaker at the fourth annual Inside the Huddle Banquet, hosted by Florida Tech President and CEO Anthony J. Catanese on Saturday, Aug. 1. The event, which includes a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m., will be held in the Hartley Room of FIT’s Denius Student Center.

Dorsett was a four-time All-American at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1976, the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award winner guided the Panthers to a national championship after leading the nation in rushing with 2,150 yards. Following his senior season, Dorsett was drafted No. 2 overall in the 1977 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys.

The following year, he became the first player ever to win a college football national championship and the Super Bowl in subsequent years as the Cowboys defeated the Denver Broncos 27-10 in Super Bowl XII. Dorsett was awarded the NFL’s Rookie of the Year Award after rushing for 1,007 yards and 12 touchdowns in 1977.

Dorsett played 11 seasons with the Cowboys and one with the Broncos before being forced to retire with injuries. Over the course of his 12-year NFL career, he garnered four Pro Bowl selections, three Associated Press All-Pro honors, two NFC Championships and one Super Bowl title. During his career Dorsett racked up 12,739 rushing yards and 77 touchdowns on the ground.

On Jan. 3, 1983, Dorsett set the NFL record for the longest run from scrimmage with a 99-yard touchdown dash in a Monday Night Football game against the Minnesota Vikings. The play was especially impressive as the Cowboys only had 10 men on the field at the time.

Dorsett was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame in 1994. In the same year, the electric tailback was enshrined in the Texas Stadium Ring of Honor. He is one of two players ever to win the Heisman Trophy, the College National Championship, the Super Bowl and be elected to both the College Football Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame.
