Florida Tech Lecture Highlights Abe Lincoln on His Birthday, Feb. 12

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Honest Abe turns 200 on Feb. 12. In celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday, Florida Institute of Technology will feature the first
of its spring humanities lectures, Abraham Lincoln at 200: The Man and the Myth. The free presentation will be on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Crawford
Building, Room 12.

The presenter is Robert Taylor, Ph.D., head of the university’s Department of Humanities and Communication and professor of history. He will explore some
of the controversies surrounding the 16th president of the United States, who guided his country through the most devastating period in its national
history ―the Civil War. Lincoln is considered by many historians to have been America’s greatest president.

Taylor will look at Lincoln’s life, from rural childhood through his career as a lawyer and U.S. Representative to his election to the presidency and
involvement in the slavery issue and Civil War.
