Edward W. Scott, a Friend of Florida Tech

by T.D. McCay, Ph.D.

The University has many friends and supporters, and one of the great ones is Edward W. Scott, Jr.  Now he is Dr. Scott since he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Florida Tech this spring.  Ed serves on the boards of many charities and one of those, The Center for Global Development, just held a charity event in Washington (which my wife and I attended as Ed’s guest) called a progressive embassy dinner.  I had no idea what that even was but we had drinks at the British embassy, dinner at the Finnish embassy, and they finished off with dessert at the Swedish embassy, all hosted by the various ambassadors and their wives.  Now, for some folks, that may not be a big deal, but for someone from the Arkansas cotton fields, it sure was.

  1. He may be an amazing friend to FIT – however, he was not well received at graduation. The speech did not make sense for that event in several ways including the political slant, the length, and the complicated structure.
